There are ten legislative priorites the American Legion supports during 2023-24.

This bill passed the Assembly and Senate once before but was VETOED by Cuomo who cited “the Native Americans” as the reason. There is a strong grass roots movement in Posts across the state to get this bill passed. It will allow limited electronic gaming in posts but will allow the modernization of reporting and ease the burden on bell jar chairman. It could SAVE smaller posts in the state who are struggling. Read and support this bill.
A resolution will be introduced in the October membership meeting to support this effort.

Resolution: Veteran Post Limited Electronic Gaming
WHEREAS, Bell Jar games of chance are a popular and profitable fundraising mechanism for Veterans Posts across the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Other types of gaming in New York State have continued to expand and improve; and
WHEREAS, Aging Veterans Posts are in need of expanded revenue streams to ensure Capital Improvements to their facilities; and
WHEREAS, Veterans Posts would greatly benefit from the ability to operate limited electronic bell jar vending machines; and
WHEREAS, Electronic reporting would streamline day-to-day accounting, management and operations of an existing fundraising opportunity; therefore, be it
